"Tremendously thorough and caring for both my wife and I"

About: Care & Support Providers / East Ayrshire Advocacy service Care Homes / Crossgate Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance Social Work services / Hospital Social Work Team

(as a service user),

Since January 2023, Mrs Hollis has been tremendously thorough and caring for both my wife and I. Due to my wife's mental and physical health, my wife needed transportation via ambulance and went into Cross House Hospital A&E Kilmarnock in November 2022 with major injuries due to her constant falling.

My wife was in many wards from when she entered Cross House Hospital. Mrs. Hollis was always there for my wife and I. One week my wife caught pneumonia, a week or two later COVID-19, and she was in terrible shape.

After months of staying in hospital she lost a lot of weight, both her mental and physical health were deteriorating. Mrs Hollis was very instrumental in working with the hospital staff to get my wife assigned to Woodland View Hospital, where she could have more one-on-one attention.

I must say both hospitals, doctors, nurses, care assistants, even the cleaners, did an outstanding job in helping my wife. Mrs Hollis kept regular meetings with my wife and I to ensure the quality of her health was improving. Then when my wife was ready to be transferred to Cross Gates Care home, in June 2023, Mrs. Hollis helped her make the transfer as smooth as possible, with regular meetings to insure my wife's health and happiness.

So far, The Crossgate's Care Home appears to be meeting her needs and have been terrific to both of us. I believe Mrs. Hollis is still with Katrina (my wife's advocate who was also there for her many times through this process to help her with outstanding care and support!)

I want to thank Elderly Accommodation Council (EAC) East Ayrshire Advocacy Service Joyce, for she teamed up with Mrs. Hollis to help me though a very demanding time, where I had many problems and if it wasn't for these kind ladies, especially Mrs. Hollis, I don't know what I would have done without them! I also want to thank Mrs. Kidd from the EAC Advocacy, which I already gave my positive feedback through her chain of command.

Mrs. Hollis set up a family plan phone menu so the Cross Gates Care home can call my wife's family members if need be. Mrs Hollis also made sure other family members, who live far away her son and her sister, who have both travelled many times to see her, were well informed and gave the same outstanding caring to them as well as to me.

Update posted by Devoted901 (a service user)

I can't remember the names of the nice ambulance staff that helped my wife way back in November 2022, they were very professional, courteous, and most of all kind and understanding.

They stayed with my wife for hours after we arrived at Cross House A&E until the A&E took my wife in.

Thank you very much!

Dear Devoted901

I am very grateful to you for your kind comments about our team member Mrs Hollis. Your shared story on Care Opinion made my day and is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your praise for Mrs Hollis' role in advocating for your wife, communicating with family and supporting your wife's transition to Crossgate Care Home.

I am pleased that you have had such a positive experience of our services and our partners in East Ayrshire Advocacy Service at a difficult time for yourself. I am glad that your wife is settled in Crossgate Care Home where I know the staff work hard to keep people connected with the community and to maintain the relationships that are important to them.

I will ensure that your positive praise is shared with Mrs Hollis and the team and I am sure that this will provide some very welcome recognition of their work.

Dear Devoted901

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience of the care provided for your wife by Teams across our Organisation.

This is a wonderful example of our wider Teams working together to provide the person centred care we aim for and it will be my pleasure to share your lovely comments with the those involved in your wife’s care.

I also share your admiration for the professionalism and compassion displayed by our staff. It’s often the attention to small details that make such a big difference in reassuring patients and their loved ones to alleviate anxieties.

Thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge your care experience.

Kind Regards
