"Exceptional care received"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Accident & Emergency Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Cardiology & Coronary Care Unit Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Cardiothoracic Surgery

(as a service user),

My heart felt a rumble; this gave my feet a tumble

I sat on the floor; And dialed NHS 24

The voice on phone asked questions and LISTENED my responses patiently; Then assured me that let me review these and call you back shortly

10 minutes and the voice returned on my phone; A prompt appointment for me in OPD six with directions was shown

I thanked the voice and made my way to OPD six; The receptionist assured me, just take a seat and we will get you fixed

OBS done, Porter directed to A & E and made me feel at ease; Consultants heard the lub dub of my heart and responded, its ward 103 for you urgently please

Seeing how busy the staffs were, I expected the transfer to ward to be late; To my surprise the bed in cardiology was arranged before eight.

Once in ward, the care there was second to none; Where everyone only has mindset, 'care for you as one'

In regard to how the surgery shall be performed; At every stage, I was kept well informed

The Porters, Domestics, CSWs, Parking Attendants, Catering assistants, Staff, Charge and Senior Charge nurses, Radiology team, Junior Doctors, Registrars, Consultants, Intensive care unit team, Surgeons, Pharmacists, Anesthetists, Rehab team, Volunteers; All colours of NHS teams came together, showing, doing what they do the best, is all that matters.

The hard work done by teams is so under-rated, which is a shame; Wish this could be addressed promptly, to give NHS a very different Fame.

Thanking all teams for the exceptional care received during my treatment at RIE especially the inpatient care received in ward 102 and 103. Please keep up the great work.

This is a beautiful poem with some lovely words for our teams. Thank you for taking time out to send this to us. I have shared with the teams who will be very pleased with this and will be happy they were able to make a difference for you.

Please get well soon and take care. Thanks once again.

Michelle

Hi Sid NHS

Wow. A Poem! I have read many Care Opinion stories, but none have ever been presented in poem format. Well done for being so inventive. I was going to try to respond in poem format, but I'm afraid my literacy skills in that department could never match yours.

I hope you are doing well. It sounds as though you've been through a bit of a worrying time. It's great to see your thanks for the staff who cared for you. I see my colleagues from NHS Lothian have already responded and will share your feedback with their teams which is fantastic.

I'm so pleased you felt listened to during your call to NHS 24. Often we are the first point of contact for patients and offering reassurance and listening are hugely important. Many of our staff read our Care Opinion stories, so thanks so much for sharing.

Take care and be good to yourself whilst you are recovering.

Best wishes

Shona
