I recently attended my first routine breast screening appointment in a mobile unit in Falkirk Community Hospital. I was a bit nervous beforehand but the radiographer was brilliant- she explained everything and did everything needed quickly and with lots of reassurance.
A couple of weeks later, I received a letter saying I needed to attend a follow up appointment in the East of Scotland breast screening clinic in Edinburgh. I arrived for my appointment - the information said it should probably take about 1 hour in total but because of some difficulties with my scans, I was there for several hours.
I have to say that from start to finish, I was treated with such kindness and compassion from the receptionist when I came in to every clinical staff member thereafter. Every step was explained to me and reassurance provided. My first name was consistently used and staff were always checking my comfort. When things were not going to plan ( my ultrasound scan did not show what the mammogram had) the doctor was very open about discussing what the problem was and what options they were considering.
In the end, I needed to have a biopsy performed by mammogram which was quite an uncomfortable procedure but again, the staff members did absolutely everything they could to make it as easy as possible for me.. I have nothing but praise for this service and it must be such a relief for people going through what can be a worrying appointment to receive such first class care.
