"Great patient care"

About: Causeway Hospital / Accident & Emergency Causeway Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I attended A&E on recently late in the evening, the wait was over 7 hours but I knew my issue needed seen to by Gynae Dept.

The lovely Triage Nurse working at around midnight called Gynae for me to see if they would accept me at the Gynae Dept rather than me waiting 7 hours for a Dr in A&E to do the same thing - this made sense, reduced patients waiting & in my opinion was great patient care.

I want also to pass my thank you to the member of staff working that night who assisted the Gynae Dr in helping me, if it wasn't for her the experience would not have been as good for me, she also helped me advocate what my issue was, I really hope you can locate who the girl was & tell her how much I appreciated this.

The gynae Dr was also very good, but I would like to note that in certain situations the patient should be given more credit in terms of knowing their own body as I knew something wasn't right but it took some persuading to get to the bottom of it.  But I am in no way complaining, I am very thankful that is just some feedback.

Hi AL21

My name is Victoria McCrory and I am the Assistant Clinical Services Manager for Causeway A&E. Thank you for taking the time to compliment the staff in the A&E department, I will ensure that they are advised of your feedback. Given the 7 hour wait which you report, I would assume the department must have been under pressure; I am pleased that our Gynae colleagues were able to facilitate a timely assessment for yourself and I wish you a speedy recovery.

I have no doubt my Gynae Colleagues will also provide you with a response to your comments. Once again thank you for taking the time to provide us with this positive feedback.

Many Thanks

Victoria McCrory

We like to ensure the patient's voice is heard; I will certainly feedback with regards to recognition of patient experience and the signs and symptoms they know is not in keeping with knowing their own body.
