I have been in Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy Ward 9 Rapid Assessment Unit for almost one week now.
I started my journey off in Admissions Unit 1 - the staff were all very busy, they seem to be short staffed, however they still tend to all the patients' needs.
I would say that I was well care for. I had to have several X-rays and the Radiology staff were so kind. I was in agony and the staff were so helpful and helped me every step of the way. It was so reassuring for me to know that I was in good hands.
In Radiology the staff were excellent also here in Ward 9(RAD) the staff cannot be faulted in any way
The ward often seems to be short staffed over the weekend and considering a shortage of staff the nurses on duty managed very well.
I have felt really cared for here in Ward 9 (RAD), nothing is too much trouble for the nurses and If I need anything I just have to ask.
Ward 9 is situated within an older part of the Victoria Hospital. The toilet that I have to use is not in the bay and I do require help to go to the toilet. The toilet nearest to me is out in the corridor and really quite a distance from my bed. This is not ideal in any way for patients The shower facility is also not within the bay if patients have mobility problems they have to be taken to the shower in a wheelchair. I think the toilets need upgrading.
It would be so much better if toilets and showers were within the bay.
I really do drink lots of water and my jug is constantly being filled up, I never have to ask for more water. The food is excellent, I had no appetite when I came into hospital but the choice of food is good and very enjoyable.
The television in the bay doesn't work and the staff have tried to replace it without much success as I couldn't see the smaller screen. I was delighted when the staff very kindly brought me a machine that I could play games on and also listen to music. It was called a RITA. It really helped me to relax. I was feeling a bit low and this really picked me up .The nursing staff, Porters, Radiology Staff, Ambulance Crew, Occupational Therapist & Physiotherapist are all very good are all very good. I feel cared for and reassured.
