I was recently referred to the GP listening service in Perth. The GP called it counselling so I was surprised when there was no waiting list which was great. When I arrived the staff member was kind and seemed friendly which made me feel at ease straight away and like I could be open and honest at last. After about 10minutes, I noticed the listener was crying and told me how sad they felt about what I was telling them.
This made me immediately stop talking, feel bad and then I felt more like I was looking after them for the rest of the time. They didn’t even apologise and just talked about how they had experienced something similar. To be honest this left me feeling much worse and I wondered what training they had or if they had their own support. Quite disappointing to be honest and I wasn’t sure if to say anything but I hope this will help the service.
