There is so much in the press at the moment about how awful an out patient hysteroscopy is- and how it is so very painful, that you should have anaesthetic, I wanted to share my story.
I was offered a choice of general anaesthetic or 2 paracetamol and the procedure being carried out in out patients. This is what I opted for, you may asked why? Well, it was a really simple choice, as I suffered a birth trauma in theatre and have PTSD as a result.
I was obviously anxious about the procedure, but the staff were caring and supportive, I did not disclosed my past history as I feared that they would not continue, and theatre was not an option.
There was a little bit of pain as the scope was inserted through the cervix, but this only lasted a few seconds. It was much an usual sensation of the fluid going in and out, but not discomfort. The whole thing was over in less than 10 minutes. Yes, I had some cramp type pain afterwards, but was able to go home and relax.
