"Every check and conversation was thorough"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

Unfortunately on Tuesday we had to call an ambulance for our young child, a phone call I still can’t believe I had to make. I just really want to commend both the female paramedics that attended and cared for our child and for coming as quickly as they did.  They were absolutely amazing at caring for my son as well as reassuring us and keeping us as calm as possible. They explained everything to my son to make him feel more comfortable in a daunting situation.

They took us to University Hospital Wishaw General where we were seen at accident and emergency. The staff at triage were lovely to my son and us. As always A&E was extremely busy and after a long wait we were taken through to be seen by a dr. The nurse that carried out the observations was fantastic and so kind to my son.

Before leaving she got my son a ‘hero certificate’ and it meant the world to him. The dr who treated my son was absolutely amazing ensuring she explained everything to him, trying to engage in conversation with him about topics he was interested in whilst giving him a full examination to get to the bottom of what was going on.

I honestly can’t thank the members of staff involved enough and seeing first hand how pushed these services are not once were we rushed, every check and conversation was thorough. Thank you!

Dear Aljean

Thank you very much for taking the time to post about your here experience on Careopinion.

I am sorry to read about your wee boy being unwell, and I can fully appreciate how worrying this must have been for you.

I am so pleased to read about all the care given, from our crew, and all the hospital staff. It really sounds as if everyone has made a difference and how lovely your son received a hero award. I am sure this was well deserved!

If you would like me to pass on your kind words to our crew, I can arrange that for you. As all posts are anonymous, the only way we would be able to identify the staff would be if you contacted our team at sas.feedback@nhs.scot with your son's name, address and date of call out. Please may I kindly ask you do this and I will be sure to arrange this for you.

Thank you once again

All the very best to you and your wee boy

Lesley

Dear Aljean,

Thank you for sharing your experience on care opinion.

I am sorry to hear that your son was unwell and had to be taken to A&E at University Hospital Wishaw. I am pleased to read that you received excellent care from the nurses and doctor treating him and that he was delighted with his "Hero" certificate. It is important for the staff to feel recognised when they provide excellent care despite how busy the department is, and it will be a pleasure to feedback your kind words and comments.

I hope your son is recovering well.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
