I was admitted to the General Medical Unit, Ward 41, of Altnagelvin Hospital to recover from a bleeding 10 cm stomach ulcer and to receive treatment and transfusions as necessary .
Due to a continuing loss of blood, my stay extended to several days.
During this period I was treated and transfused with units fluids and bloods.
All the staff were exceptional in their care and compassion.
At all times they displayed a professionalism way beyond their years .
Indeed, I learned on Ward 41 , that laughter is indeed the best medicine.
Also, never , never , ever say the Q word, as it immediately jinxes the shift.
I realise that the dedication and professionalism of all the staff is done in an environment of pressure and in an atmosphere of urgency - yet each and every one worked so well as a smooth team.
I wish to thank all the staff of Ward 41 for their kindness and compassion
Thank you all .
"All the staff were exceptional in their care and compassion"
