"GP appointment"

About: General practices in Ayrshire & Arran

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter has diabetes and had not been feeling well. She thought she may have a urine infection at best, or at worst a kidney infection. She had pain in her back so that she could hardly stand up straight. Terrible pain . Going to the toilet a lot.

She completed an e-consult form and got a call from doctors receptionist to say she could pick up prescription at 4:00pm.  She was almost in tears. I phoned the surgery but was told that I don’t have permission. I asked for the practice manager but was told that wasn't allowed and I had  to speak to senior admin!

I explained the situation. The GP had made a clinical decision without seeing her or asking for a urine sample. And a change of tune - the prescription was now available. So my daughter picked it up. Trailed round 4 chemists to find it was not available! Back to drs! Have to get another prescription. By this time my daughter is exhausted. So she goes home to bed. Eventually gets it. Starts antibiotics.

This morning she gets up thinks don’t feel too bad until she starts moving about. Back aching. Once again she phoned the doctor,  The receptionist seemed to try to block her but then agreed to triage her. An ANP phones and prescribes cocodomol. But still no face to face appointment.

Dear Catrine

Thank you so much for taking the time to share the healthcare experience of your daughter when trying to receive support from her GP. I am so sorry to hear your daughter hasn't been feeling well and of the difficulties you describe.

All of our GP practices really appreciate to get feedback from their patients, positive and negative, as these help to identify areas for potential improvements and we would very much like to share your comments with the GP Practice team.

To enable the Primary Care team to share your comments, I would be most grateful if you can email the name of the GP Practice to HSCPAdmin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk.

I hope your daughter starts to make a speedy recovery.

Kind regards

Marie
