"Breastfeeding support"

About: North Down Community Services / Ards Community Midwives North Down Community Services / Surestart The Ulster Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

I gave birth over Easter weekend when there was skeleton staff in the Ulster. The staff in the hospital were excellent but I returned home still struggling to get my baby to latch.

The community midwifery team were exceptional in supporting me with my goal of breastfeeding. This included extra visits, referring me to the Ulster lactation consultant and arranging a 1-1 session with Mel in my home.

Mel provided my with invaluable skills, confidence and time in getting my baby to latch. I have since been attending her breastfeeding groups in the Ards hospital where she continues to support and champion each of the mothers and their babies, often going out of her way to provide as much support as possible. The groups are excellent for troubleshooting issues with latch and various other feeding questions and concerns, as well as creating peer support for local mothers.

Mel and her work are an absolute asset to the work of the Trust. She is worth her weight in gold.
