Towards the end of my pregnancy, my baby showed signs of slow growth. I was sent for a growth scan, where I was told that they couldn't get an accurate measurement of my baby's head because she was so low down but her heartbeat and amniotic fluid was fine.
I'm already pretty anxious because of a previous miscarriage so when they take my blood pressure, it's high. Now I have to go to triage to speak to a doctor. Not for the first time, I'm told that I should have a sweep. I told the doctor that at 37 weeks pregnant I don't want my baby to appear this early and happy to carry on with the pregnancy. This doctor then commented that they "don't like to" deliver stillborn babies. I found this statement to be incredibly insensitive and upsetting, to make it about her feelings and not mine. At the time I was too upset to say anything but over a year later - and after giving birth to a healthy baby girl - it's still on my mind and I wish I would have complained at the time.
I understand that doctors have to give you the facts and the concern was that if there was a problem it could have ended in tragedy but I think there's a better way to say things.
