"Mammogram appointment"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Breast care service

(as a service user),

This is my third appointment with the breast screening mobile unit in Dunfermline, Fife and I felt I had to feed back and say that the service I have received each time has been fantastic.

The clinician Jill who saw me today was so lovely, she was so considerate re my need to use a stick when standing for the assessment, and she took time to be gentle and caring throughout. She also booked me in for my next appointment potentially in 3 years to use the lift so I don’t have to use the stairs. This sort of professional and skilled treatment makes it so much easier to keep going back for ongoing potential life saving assessments.

My request attached to this would be to ask if a similar mobile unit could travel and provide cervical smears as I believe more women would attend if they knew they were seeing professional staff who have the expertise and patience to carry out , what can be a bad experience when going to the GP practice.

Dear Barbara234

My name is Siobhan McIlroy and I am the Head of Patient Experience. NHS Fife welcomes all feedback, so thank you for taking the time to post on Care Opinion. I am sorry for the delay in you receiving a response.

Its wonderful to hear that every experience you have had with the Breast Screening Service has been wonderful. I am sure Jill will be delighted to know that she helped you feel cared for throughout your appointment. She has definitely provided you with person-centred care thinking about your next appointment and what you will need to make things easier and more pleasant.

I like your idea of a mobile cervical screening unit.

Thank you again for sharing your story, best wishes and take care, Siobhan

Thank you so much for your reply Siobhan. I also appreciate you taking note of the cervical smear clinic mobile units. I really do think this will work as it will be specialists carrying out the procedure with more consideration as they will be doing it everyday. I have always felt stressed at the GP as they take your blood pressure and are surprised when it’s high. I have had to lie with my legs open and shaking for a half hour whilst the nurse tried to carry out the procedure and then called in a Dr and asked me to go on all fours which I was mortified about. I have to confess I haven’t been for a smear test for about 10years as a result, but happily go for a breast screen as treated much better. Thank you again.
