"Unbearable heat in the childrens ward"

About: Children and Young People's Services / (Ward 15) Noah’s Ark

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter was admitted to ward 15 and treated for sepsis. She was very poorly but what an amazing group of nurses/doctors she had looking after her. For that, I am incredibly grateful. However, the heat of the whole ward was almost unbearable. My daughters room was stifling - in no way conducive to recovery. We had fans running and her grandfather brought in a air cooler - at his expense. I cannot understand how this is being allowed? The patients are made to feel worse? The staff are seriously struggling. Most staff are working relentlessly for 12 hours. The work is exhausting and their working conditions are atrocious! I’ve been told that some members of staff have gone home poorly at the end of their shift due to the suffocating heat of the ward. Looking out of the windows of the children's ward we see the HUGE air conditioning tanks working hard…….where are they going? Why are they not flowing through the whole hospital?

I wrote an email to the Patient Experience team on day 3 of my daughters stay. By day 5 there was still no acknowledgement so I phoned them. I was assured that I would hear back. Still nothing!

Is this a matter of public health??

Hello,

Thank you for your lovely feedback regarding our staff- It is always lovely to her the positive impact we have in helping children and their families.I will share this with our team.

We are aware of the temperature issues within the hospital and are working with our estates department daily to try and resolve these issues.
