"Smoking at day surgery entrance"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Day Surgery University Hospital Hairmyres / Early Pregnancy Assessment Service

(as a service user),

The staff at the Hairmyers Maternity Day Assessment are excellent and have provided my wife and I with the highest standards of care.

Unfortunately, making our way to the unit is problematic. In order to enter Maternity Day Assessment, it is necessary to pass the entrance to Day Surgery. Each and every time we have attended, we have been forced to pass patients smoking (often in groups). This is in complete violation of smoking policy and should not be allowed to continue, especially around pregnant women.

Dear Capote

Thank you for your feedback regarding the staff and excellent care that your wife received when attending the maternity day assessment area. They will be pleased with your feedback.

I am sorry to hear that you regularly passed patients smoking the entrance to the maternity assessment area. As you say this is a violation of policy and we are reviewing our site actions to address this problem. It is a difficult issue and we encourage all visitors to escalate to staff on duty.

Sincere apologies to you and your wife for the distress caused.

Thank you for raising

Lise
