"Not a great experience"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Maternity care Victoria Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

It all started when I found out I was pregnant end of Nov 2022. Very excited but going through a lot of mental health issues. I was advised not to have the app due to obsessive focus.

Made the community midwife aware of this right from the start.

12 week scan was fine.

By 16 weeks, I was extremely sick and struggling to even get out my bed as I was so exhausted. This was going on weeks. Floods of tears and constantly on the phone to my midwife, the lack of support was unbelievable. At this point, I really did consider having an abortion as I felt I didn’t have any other option. Feeling frustrated, my partner got involved and called the midwives himself as he couldn’t believe the lack of care I was receiving. I was finally being listened to and send to triage which was found I was having thyroid issues. Thankfully, then referred to a consultant at the vic who has been outstanding.

Throughout the entire process, I’ve never spoken to my midwife or met my midwife as they basically seem to have wiped their hands of me.

Throughout this, I also suffer a bladder condition which wasn’t passed onto consultants and due to lack of research, which I understand could have killed my child if this wasn’t picked up eventually if they didn’t immediately contact the relevant people and advised my medication to stop. The midwife team in Dunfermline appeared to blame the consultants and personally, I couldn’t believe they tried to blame other people as they were my point of contact.

In all, I praise the consultant at the Victoria but the midwife team at Dunfermline has been a very big disappointment.

I’m not the only person I know who has had the same issues and I’ve given up even trying to contact them or even trying to have an appointment.

I am in fact dreading these people trying to make contact after my child is born as I feel as though they will cause more issues than help. Due to their lack of care during pregnancy, I am reluctant to have these people look after my son’s care.
