"Difficult, but needs to be shared."

About: Fife Community Services / Sexual Health

(as a service user),

When I first noticed the symptoms of something happening, I was shocked. And I felt ashamed and guilty. Very much so.

Therefore I got an appointment with Sexual Health Fife (SHF).

Of course, the professionals at SHF treated the nasty Sexually Transmitted Disease with the appropriate medication and follow-ups.

They helped me alleviate the guilt and shame I felt. Adults with an active sex life can be exposed to certain risks. A good reminder to take the necessary precautions if, well, (this is the difficult part) if you have or have had more than one partner.

This issue was treated with absolute discretion, if you catch my drift.

Plus, they were extremely caring when presented with my needle phobia. Yes, at my age, I used to faint when getting bloods done. They took care of this phenomenally, I really have no words to describe the level of care and attention these professionals give to every single difficulty a patient may experience.

Doctors, nurses, labs technicians, thank you!

Dear Cassanova, thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience of the sexual health service. We understand that it can be difficult for people to access testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections for a number of reasons including embarrassment and fear of being judged. It is a priority for us to ensure that all of our patients are supported in a compassionate and non-judgemental way so that it is as easy as possible to access the care and advice that they need at the time that they need it. I am sorry to hear that you initially experienced a sense of guilt and shame associated with your symptoms but I am very glad to hear that my colleagues were able to alleviate this for you. I am also pleased to hear that they were able to support you to have your bloods done as I appreciate how challenging this can be in the face of a needle phobia. I will be sure to share your kind words with the team who will be delighted to hear that they have been able to make a positive difference.
