On a recent health centre visit, I was sitting in the waiting room with a man who was very clearly disabled/vulnerable. A staff member came out of the treatment room and asked if everyone had checked in at reception. This was asked in a tone within which suggested they already knew the answer. The man remained silent, I don’t think he heard. This was asked very loudly with an obvious attitude.
Upon entering the treatment room again I heard the staff member say to the other member of staff that the patient knows he needs to check in,that they wouldn't go to get him, and that he could just sit there. They then proceeded to leave this poor man sitting waiting for a further 5 minutes before going to get him, even though it seemed clear that they knew he was waiting for them.
When they took him to the room the first thing they commented on was him not checking in, in a horrible tone. No hello, or how are you. It was the tone of voice and attitude used that was half the problem, this was a what appeared to be a vulnerable older man and there was no need for this staff member to be so horrible.
"Really sad treatment of patient"
