My son is type 1 diabetes and had a pump failure requiring to go back to pen therapy whilst we wait on a replacement pump.
His blood sugars and ketones began to rise because he wasn’t getting insulin. I made multiple attempts at contacting the paediatric diabetes team/nurse and still await a reply. I thereafter contacted the ward who were unable to help but they also tried to contact someone from the specialist team to no avail. I contacted the children’s nursing team leader who said she would attempt to contact someone but due to the time it now was (after 2.5 hours of trying to get help) was unsure she would get anyone. I had no further contact from her. Later a doctor from the ward contacted me to give me the support to start giving my son his insulin by pen until morning when hopefully a nurse from the service contacts us.
I am grateful we eventually were offered the support to start own therapy however feel very let down by the service.
