"It's the little things that mean so much."

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance Victoria Hospital / Rapid Access and Discharge

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I have really been so happy to be in hospital as I have recently been in so much pain with no-one to help me at home.

I can remember an ambulance was called and I was brought into the Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy. When we arrived at the hospital I was so surprised to see the ambulances all lined up, and although I had a long time to wait I was taken much quicker than I expected. My wait was comfortable as the ambulance team gave me pain relief and kept joking with me and making me laugh. They were so nice they kept me relaxed as well as keeping my pain under control.

I am not sure of all the areas I have been in but here in this ward (Ward 9 Rapid Assessment Discharge ) Everything is perfect, I know I have a lot to deal with but I can honestly  say the staff have been encouraging and supportive. They are all so busy and I must say that I do appreciate everything that they do. Anything that I need I just have to ask. It's the little things that they do that mean a lot. Things that often go unnoticed.  For example simple things like a wash.  Nursing staff helped me with washing and I felt so clean and refreshed. The support is so much appreciated especially at times when I cannot mange by myself.

The communication in this ward is good and if I don't understand something the nurses take more time to explain further to me.

I have been a little confused at times and I know the nurses have taken time to reassure me, This is very comforting.

I still have a lot of pain and in trying to manage this I have found the nursing staff to be considerate in dealing with my pain

I had to have an enema, I really didn't like it I found it so uncomfortable but I know the staff were doing it for my benefit and they really did their best to get me through the procedure.

I have felt so much better following this and feel much better within myself.

I had a problem swallowing some pills, however the nurse gave me some good guidance on swallowing pills and this has helped me.

It really is the little things that the nurses say and do that means so much to me.

All staff including Nurses Cleaners Physios Doctors all give their best

This stay in The Victoria Hospital Ward 9 Rapid Assessment Discharge  has been brilliant even unfortunately with the pain I have.
