"Experience with my key worker"

About: One Recovery Bucks / High Wycombe

(as a service user),

I have been with the service 12 years, have been on methadone most of that time, I managed to get myself off the methadone and not used for 3 years. When I had a new key worker handed to me, I was was looking forward to starting fresh with someone.

I had to come from Chesham on the bus, which was very stressful as I have an underlying health problem. When I got there and started the meeting, my new key worker said I need to do work around relapse prevention. I said I didn't need to, I've been clean for so long, then they said I need to do work around my drug use. What drug use?

I asked the key worker why they weren't in my zoom meeting with the doctor, they said this is not appropriate for this key work session, they appeared to get angry, packed their stuff up and told me we are done now.

This left me feeling really stressed and if I wasn't head strong this could of made me go and use. I suffer with really bad mental health problems and had to get the bus back home.

This key worker spoke to me like a school teacher and made me feel so small. Anyways, I have a new keyworker, they are great and really knows their job.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback.

Can we first apologise for the experiences you document. The keyworker and service user relationship is pivotal in successfully and comfortably engaging in your treatment and your recovery plan.

We aim at ORB, via a best fit approach to allocate all our clients based on the skills and experiences of our workers. We clearly did not get this right on this occasion. It would be interesting to hear who your key-worker was? So we can adopt a learning approach to avoid similar occurrences.

It is pleasing to hear your relationship with your new keyworker has started in a much better way. Please attend if at all possible our Recovery Cafe and Your Voice meeting every Friday on both our main sites. Your feedback has and will help us develop our services and our support.
