I had to travel approximately 40 miles to Omagh health and primary care complex to have a colonoscopy, which I was a little annoyed about as I could see my local hospital (which also carried out the procedure) from my front door. I had to ask a relative to take an afternoon off work to take me to/from the appointment.
However, I am now glad I did go to Omagh because of the very positive experience I had. From the moment I entered the unit I found every member of staff I came into contact with to be extremely friendly while being professional. Each nurse explained what their role was and what they were going to do. They introduced themselves by their first name and asked how I would like to be called. Their friendly approach put me at ease and helped me relax. The procedure was clearly explained and options given if at any stage I wanted it to stop.
Throughout the procedure the nurses continued to converse with me and offer reassurance and encouragement.
In recovery I had a lovely cup of tea and a very enjoyable slice of toast which was very much appreciated.
I would like to offer a very big thank you to Amy and Gerardett (Admissions), Caitin nurse specialist (who carried out the procedure), Gillian and Anita who assisted. Roisin, Rebecca, Chester and Gemma in recovery.
"Very positive experience"
