"One day at a time, recovery is possible!"

About: Parklands Hospital / Juniper Ward

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Overall how would you describe the unit environment?

Parklands hospital and ALL the staff have positively impacted my life going forward. I now have hope of a better future having learned so much over the last 3 weeks. I am so very grateful for the opportunity to come into hospital and receive specialist support.

Does the ward environment provide sufficient privacy when you required it?

There are many safe spaces within the ward that can be utilised including my room, quiet room, art room or even outside in the garden areas. There is also the interview rooms or areas just off the ward.

How would you describe the standard of cleanliness?

The cleaners and staff do a great job in ensuring all areas are clean and tidy at all times. If something is reported regarding cleanliness it is rectified at the earliest opportunity.

How would you describe the standard of the food provided?

Overall I enjoyed most meals, lunchtime was my favourite and jacket potatoes and salad were delicious. Some of the other options are very bland in flavour. My worst meal was fishcake, croquettes and peas. Awful tasting fishcake, potato croquettes were like rubber and there was no salad option as requested. The kitchen staff were always polite and respectful. (The feedback around the food has been sent tot he catering team)

Do you think there are enough therapeutic activities available?

It depends on the individual needs. For me I initially found everything very slow and wanted to keep myself busy. However, had to learn to relax and slow down myself. I do think at times is long gaps between sessions and some sessions cancelled due to lack of staffing.

Do you think there are enough creative/relations activities available?

There was plenty of things to do but I feel there could possible be more relaxation sessions as well as yoga. The OT team are also brilliant and I loved all the OT sessions I attended.

How would you describe the overall care from your Consultant?

I am so grateful for all the care received from the Drs and Consultants whilst attending Parklands. Very understanding and reassuring when listening to my problems and thought process. Thank you so much 😊

How would you describe the overall care you received from Nursing Staff?

Amazing team of nursing staff. Everyone was very helpful towards me and other patients. Always willing to listen. I felt I could talk honestly about my feelings and why I was in hospital. Nothing was ever a problem when asking for help or assistance. Thank you so much 😊

Did you feel you could talk to the staff about any issues that troubled you?

As mentioned above, all staff are approachable, caring and very empathetic. The staff work very hard and at times seemed stretched in dealing with multiple patients at any given time. Well done and keep doing the fantastic work.

Did you receive individual sessions with your Key Nurse?

I have plenty of 1:1 chats with key nurses and they were very understanding and give honest, positive and genuine feedback where necessary. ALL nurses were brilliant. Parklands has a great team.

Sessions were very beneficial and much needed sessions. I would also like to mention how caring *Named Nurse was with me and my family. Thank you.

How involved did you feel in your care planning?

I was very involved in completing my care plan and feel I am ready to go home and continue therapy and support in the community.

How would you describe the quality of information you received about your condition?

I received lots of information around complex PTSD and have a much better understanding of my past feeling and how I can cope going forward.

How would you overall describe your stay?

I am so pleased I came into Parklands and have learned so much to improve my thought process. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to receive such amazing care and expertise from so many people. I am enough and I can be happy and accept my childhood trauma.

Further comments?

Meeting Peer to Peer support workers has inspired me to give back once I am better. I would love to volunteer here at Parklands in the future. Huge thanks to all the staff, Dr’s, nurses, psychologists, cleaners and chefs

One day at a time, recovery is possible! 😊
