"Unfair staff behaviour"

About: St Mary's Hospital (Newport)

(as the patient),

I was admitted to ED, and although I had a low GCS, I was able to hear what the staff around me were saying.

The adult emergency team/ED consultant and Dr looking after me were joking about how I could be faking my situation (due, I believe, to me being a patient struggling with mental health) and what would be their most favourite/most painful way to wake someone.

No one should be treated with this little respect, whether they are assumed to be unconscious or not, or whether they have learning difficulties or mental health struggles.

Dear Skye24

Thank you for taking the time to post this valuable feedback, which has been shared with the senior staff in the department to review and learn from.

I am very sorry that your experience in the Emergency Department was not a positive one; the team would like to join me in apologising for the poor experience you had at what must have been such a worrying time for you.

Unfortunately I am unable to specifically comment on your experience, but should you wish to discuss this further please contact the Trust PALS team on 09183 534850 or via email at iownt.pals@nhs.net who will support you further.
