Was admitted to Surgical 2, Causeway Hospital for elective sigmoid colectomy, because of complications from diverticulosis. I wish to thank my consultant surgeon Mr Patterson for his professionalism performing my surgery which gave me the best result I could have hoped for. Also, my anaesthetist who was so caring both before and after surgery ensuring that I was comfortable. The staff in the recovery ward who had their work cut out for them as I came out of anaesthetic comforting and doing everything they could to make me comfortable. The angel nurses on the ward - especially Tina - who seen me through those first 3 hard days. The entourage of folk that gathered round my bed every morning - intimidating at first-but soon did I realise the expertise that surrounded me and every tweet made to aid my recovery made on that morning round.
The staff that ensured I was washed and in a clean bed, the cleaners keeping the wards spotless, the tea/lunch ladies (sorry I wasn’t up to eating much). The physios. The student nurses who I witnessed being so kind to the older patients. The ward clerks keeping it all ticking over.
I hope I have forgotten anyone.
I did however witness some distressing scenes in my ward by a night nurse who I feel would have been better employed as a sergeant major than a nurse considering the way they talked to some of the older more confused patients on the ward. The nights they were on, the whole tone of the place dropped and I witnessed elderly patients alarmed at even the sound of their voice in the corridor. I realise that this situation is entirely out of trusts hands.
Over all the care and attention I received in Surgical 2, Causeway Hospital was excellent, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
"Excellent care and attention"
