I have been attending the Day Unit at Roxburghe House, Aberdeen for 11 weeks of a 12 week course and I wish to acknowledge the professionalism, care and thoughtfulness of the nursing staff as well as the help and enthusiasm of the staff who provide the additional activities of art therapy and writing, in whatever form that may take.
The nursing care team is headed up by Lee who leads by example and is ably supported, in the first instance, by Carole. Kerry provides complementary therapy and support and Rosanne acts as care assistant. Finally Anne is our valuable volunteer.
I have found the whole experience an absolute joy and a fantastic confidence booster and I know that the other attendees definitely have a similar view.
Each week starts with a social get together and chat, followed by a talk given by a healthcare professional and, over the weeks we have been exposed to: Clinical Psychology, A Pharmacist, a Dietitian, a disability aids specialist, the Chaplain, a Physiotherapist and other interesting and appropriate disciplines including a simple exercise session.
Lunch follows and then a relaxing period facilitated by Kerry. After this half hour we adjourn to the art table to paint or write or read.
Everything possible is done to make the day a special one for all involved.
I am, personally, so grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of this course and I would strongly recommend participation for anyone who has a life limiting condition.
Thank you all so very much.
