"My husbands care"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a carer),

My husband has recently been discharged from the Surgical Unit at Grantham Hospital following a total knee replacement. His care has been exceptional and we cannot thank the whole team enough. From Jody his ACP and Mr. Sakthivel his surgeon who guided us out of a year long nightmare of appointments and 'should we / shouldn't we operate' discussions, to Matron Julie for easing my pre admission anxieties as a carer and ‘Super Sprint’ Sister Tricia and her amazing nursing team.

Our nurse Queen was an absolute credit to nursing, she was the loveliest, kindest and most thoughtful person and more than once reminded me to be a wife and not an off duty nurse wanting to help. She was an amazing teacher too as we watched her schooling and encouraging and guiding new staff nurses who had not long joined the Trust. And Jane, I mustn’t forget housekeeper Jane! What a lovely lady – funny and bright and smiley and as genuine a person as you could ever meet.

The care truly was outstanding and personally delivered. As a patient my husband was well cared for, his understanding of what was happening, his pain control and comfort considered at every turn and as a carer I was included, involved and cared for to the same high standard. Nothing was too much trouble and you knew it was honest and genuine, even to the point of popping in to say goodnight at the end of shift and dropping by the next day to say hello despite being rostered elsewhere.

Thank you all so much (& see you all again in about 3 or 4 months for the other knee!)

Dear Jendy9

Thank you so much for this truly amazing post and it has been shared with all of the staff who are just as grateful as me for the really heartfelt kind words you have sent in. We aim to give the highest quality care we can give and this proves that we are achieving that. I have also shared with Jane our Housekeeper who is always so full of smiles and works so hard to keep the ward clean with the rest of her team

We hope to see you both again and I hope your husband is recovering well and running round by now! Please send him our very best wishes and thank you once again for sending this in as it boosts morale for the nurses to see just what a good job they are doing, despite all the obstacles we face at times

KR

Julie
