I feel it started when I got my tooth out, I was in a lot of medication due to the pain I was in. I woke up one morning and headed to the bathroom, just as I was turning the water on I fell on the floor. I could not feel my left leg or move my hand. My Wife got me back onto my bed and called our Doctor, whom advised us just to call 999.
The ambulance drivers were amazing they took me into Ninewells, where I received an MRI . This showed up a blood clot in my neck that had travel up .I was in the ninewells for two days then sent home. I felt good until the next day where I could not feel my leg again. My daughter called the Hospital. Next thing I knew I was taken back into Hospital, they then sent me to Letham Ward.
I had already heard wonderful things about the work they do,myself and my family were happy for this to happen. From day one the care in this ward has been second to none. Physio began straight away and I was nervous as they really pushed me and I am glad they did. I now have the use of my hand and leg once more. Occupational Therapy have also been amazing, I did not understand why they were giving me some of the activities they did but now it all makes sense.Staff are amazing in Letham Ward, there is always someone smiling and laughing and some even think they can dance. The Garden has been a big help as when my family visit we can all sit and enjoy being together, it is beautiful and tidy. The two cleaners Kim and Lorraine are very funny always chatting away.
Kelly comes and chats with us every morning to make sure we are ok and keeps us busy.We get three course meals and the food is really good and I’ve put weight on.
I do find it difficult in the bathrooms as there are no shelving, hand rails or swing down seats attached to the wall.If they want us to benefit from the rehab fully the future patients need work done on the bathrooms.
I am very grateful for everyone’s help and support. I could not have this without them. Words cannot express how great full I am.
