"I’ve come a long way from where I was"

About: NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde / Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)

(as the patient),

I struggle with really low mood and anxiety I really had a hard time with a lot of things, I lost a lot of friends when I was struggling so I felt really alone.

I really hated myself at that time to the point where I didn’t even want anyone to look at me , I was ashamed that I couldn’t go out and do things like everyone else without feeling totally overwhelmed, honestly I was really skeptical about starting therapy I felt it wouldn’t help but I met a nurse who changed the way I thought.

She would see me multiple times a week if she had to, to keep me safe. For the first time in a long time I felt seen. Meeting her helped me meet parts of my old self again I forgot even existed. When I was on an all time low she sat with me and listened no matter how long our sessions were she sat and listened to me. She helped me realise that mental health isn’t a personal failure. Although my struggles are ongoing I know I’ve come a long way from where I was I am changing for the better. I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for the support I got.

Thank you for making me feel less alone in the world

Dear Frostp84

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story. I can’t begin to imagine what you have been going through and how difficult this has been for you. I am so pleased that therapy has made such a difference to you and made you feel less alone. I would really like to share your comments with your nurse so that they know how their care and support has helped you. Would you be able to let me know which centre you attended? If you prefer you can email me at PatientExperience@ggc.scot.nhs.uk.

Many thanks and best wishes.

Nicole
