I had my first appointment with rheumatology this week to discuss a possible rare diagnosis. The Nurses and CWS's were very friendly and informative.
Sadly the same could not be said for the Doctor who reviewed me, not the Doctor I was booked in to see. During the consultation, we were interrupted 5 times. At times I found the doctor to be dismissive of symptoms and experiences and not sure if they were really listening and understanding at points. I don't feel the physical examination was completed to its full extent.
The Doctor then left the room to discuss with the doctor I was supposed to see. On their return I was advised I would need some bloods done and they would book me in for review in 9 months' time so I didn't fall off their radar.
I asked how I would be advised of my blood results and the doctor told me they weren't sure how long they would take to come back. I was handed a leaflet for the rheumatology helpline and taken for bloods by the CSW.
The whole experience has left me feeling deflated and somewhat undermined. I can say with certainty that the history taking and clinical examination would not have passed in exam situations, in my view. I appreciate all services are under immense pressure but it does not excuse the experience I have had.
