I was referred to the jasmine suite for a hysteroscopy at Stepping Hill on the 2 week wait pathway, I was already very anxious and so decided to read up on the procedure, the stories I read petrified me and by the time the day arrived I was certain I couldn’t do this as an outpatient.
I arrived for the appointment and we discussed why I was there and what the procedure would entail, I was reassured totally that I had options, I could have gas and air or choose the GA if I would prefer, the reassurance I was given and the understanding I was given helped put my mind at rest and I agreed I would give it a go as I was there now and I felt assured she would stop if it was too painful.
I was taken into the room and we got started, for me the experience was gentle, pain free and very straight forward, I was chatted to throughout and could see what was happening on the tv screen, when the first biopsy was taken I was worried about the pain but only felt a minor clicking sensation, they were concerned they didn’t have enough cells in there for the best result and I told them to go ahead and repeat it as for me there had been no discomfort, I didn’t even consider needing to use the gas and air,
I was given all the information they could give me and then told I could get dressed, they constantly asked how I was feeling and whether I was ok at each point of the procedure and I can’t fault the care and dignity I was given
"I was certain I couldn't do this as an outpatient"
