I developed symptoms of a stroke - tingling up my left arm and across my forehead, facial droop and slurring of my speech.
My boss and I presented at the nearest GP practice, where they quickly assessed me and called an ambulance, whilst ensuring the stroke team would be awaiting my arrival. Their response and care was excellent.
On arrival to Altnagelvin Hospital the specialist stroke nurse Valerie and Dr Rizeq were awaiting my arrival and within 38 minutes I had been assessed, had a CT brain scan and had received the lysis treatment.
Once the lysis treatment was given I was moved to the Stroke Unit, where sister Ann Marie and her staff provided me with a very high standard of care and were very helpful in reassuring me and my family members.
All staff members I came in contact with where professional and very kind.
My family and I are indebted to the care and attention provided by our health service. We thank you.
