"Referred by my GP for colonoscopy"

About: Belfast City Hospital / Endoscopy Unit

(as a service user),

I had been feeling quite worried about the whole thing since my GP had made the appointment for me. I was also worried about having to be sedated. I asked the nurse if it was possible to go without, and told me, not a problem. The choice was mine.

At the hospital the staff were very friendly and relaxed, which helped me relax. The doctor who performed the procedure was very friendly, talkative, reassuring, and relaxed. As were his entire team in the theatre. They made what was for me a very worrying and frightening experience, very, very bearable.

Many thanks for taking the time to send positive feedback regarding your recent experience. Endoscopy services aim to provide a patient centred approach to all service user, so I'm glad that staff reinforced the fact you had a choice regarding sedation. We totally understand how frightening this experience can be so I'm happy staff helped you feel at ease. I will pass this feedback onto the staff.

Kind Regards

Sr B Carville
