"Thank you to those staff who made my time comfortable"

About: Western General Hospital / Radiology

(as the patient),

I have challenges with my gut & bowels. I had an appointment for an MRI Defecating Proctogram at WGH. I don't live in Edinburgh so needed to travel, so anyone can I'm sure appreciate going for a scan & travelling can make most anxious & a little nervous as you hope to be on time etc.

Tracy, the radiologist, was lovely. She went through the yellow form you are required to fill in, took me through what would happen, reassured me she would be there & at anytime they can stop the scan. There was also a gentleman Radiologist but didn't catch his name who went through instructions I would be given.

Dr Taylor was very discrete & gentle, he let Tracy talk to me & assist me to turn over, not easy when you've got rotator cuff damage. After scan completed I could change back  into my clothes & go. Not the most pleasant of scans, but these staff ensured it went as smooth as possible & with dignity. So now I just wait for the results.

The Dept is extremely busy & I felt for them especially when patients turned up without doing the prep they had been asked to do prior to the scans they were having - this of course then made the day longer for staff & others waiting for scans.

Thank you to those staff who made my time comfortable. Would be nice if the changing room was more private, not in a place with flimsy curtain with people constantly walking pass.

Dear Miss DMU

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us via Care Opinion.

I’m so pleased to hear that the staff were so lovely and helpful when you attended for your scan, especially when you were feeling anxious. It is also useful to get your feedback regarding the changing area. I can confirm this has been passed this on to the management team who will be able to review this.

Thank you again

Louise

Dear Miss DMU,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us your experience, that is greatly appreciated.

Our teams work hard to make the hospital experience as good as it can be for everyone, and I am pleased to hear that Tracy was able to provide a comprehensive explanation of the procedure and all staff had a professional and empathetic approach to this complex examination.

I appreciate and acknowledge that there would be multiple staff going to and from this area to access MRI and our CT control areas so not an ideal layout. We try to arrange these appointments as the last case of the day to minimise the number of people around, however it is not always possible. Generally, we have one patient in the scanner and the next patient would be screened in the second cubicle with curtains to allow the completion of the safety questionnaire without any other patients in this prep area.

Thank you again for sharing your feedback, I will ensure your lovely comments are passed on to the Radiographers/Radiologist involved in your care.

Best wishes,

Lorna
