"Parking spaces"

About: Crosshouse Hospital

(as a service user),

I had an appointment at the ENT department at Crosshouse Hospital. I arrived and could not find a car parking space, so left my car in the Blue Badge area as I didn't want to miss the appointment I had been waiting for for 5 months.

As soon as I got into the reception I let the receptionist know that I had parked there and left my details. They informed me that I may get a fine.

Once my appointment had finished, I went back to my car and spoke to a member of staff nearby to explain the situation. They said that people can get a fine if they park in the Blue Badge space without displaying a badge. I explained that I have arthritis and struggle to walk far but this did not seem to make a difference.

No one seemed to offer me an alternative. I am concerned that if I cannot find a space at my next appointment, I will either have to face getting a fine or cancel my appointment.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and I was really sorry to hear of the difficulty you experienced trying to find a parking space at the hospital. I appreciate that this must have been a very stressful situation, especially as you were due to be at an appointment.

We have a temporary, mobile MRI scanner situated on the East Car Park of University Hospital Crosshouse at present, whilst essential work is carried out on our own MRI scanner. This has meant that we have had to reduce the number of car parking spaces available, which is clearly not ideal.

Unfortunately, anyone parking in a disabled space, without displaying a blue badge is at risk of being fined. Patients who have mobility issues can apply for a blue badge through their local council or online at Gov.uk.

With best wishes,

Linda
