"Feeling belittled and not listened to"

About: General practices in Fife Victoria Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I have been fighting for over 2 months to get a knee looked at by a medical professional. This knee has a complicated medical history, including surgery to realign tendons and ligaments to hold the kneecap in place. For the third time in four years, the ligaments have torn with no trauma to the joint. I’ve constantly had requests for urgent appointments dismissed because they’ve wrongly been written off as just osteoarthritis. 

I tried to get my GP to have a look at the joint so that a more in-depth referral letter could be written, but I have been repeatedly dismissed, and I even felt belittled after I had tried to get a house visit. 

This injury has left me housebound and with the lack of care my mental health has taken a massive hit. I’ve recently had to get the DBI team involved as I’m really struggling, but I’m fearful of talking to a GP after my experiences with them.
