"Staff were like a second family"

About: Fife Community Services / District Nursing General practices in Fife Victoria Hospital / Palliative Care and Hospice

(as a relative),

We cannot thank ward 34, VHK, the Palliative  Care Team (Community) and the District Nurse Team at Path House Surgery enough for the care they provided over the years, especially before our relative passed.

Ward 34 staff were like a second family over the last 5 years and even though he moaned about going for his transfusions, these nurses always kept him upbeat. Even his last 2 admissions when he was deteriorating you never changed and he loved you all for this and so do we.

Jennifer from the District Nurse Team is an angel- thank you for the support you gave our relative and us as a family ensuring he was comfortable and everything in place in his final days so we as a family could enjoy our time with him rather than worry about what we would need to do next was such a great relief to us all.

Jennifer and her team and also the Palliative Care Team ensured we were able to keep our relative at home and nothing was ever too much bother. NHS gets such bad press but we fulfilled our relative's dying wish to remain at home and this was only possible with the help of these teams. Thank you.

Good morning Deblorc

On behalf of the palliative care team I would like to thank you so much for taking the time to write a review on Care Opinion about the care and support your relative received over recent years.

I am sorry to hear about your relatives death and I am always amazed by the strength demonstrated by bereaved families who think about us, taking time to let us know about their experience of health care. It is hugely valuable to hear both your relative and you as a family felt supported by haematology, palliative care and district nursing teams in NHS Fife/ Health & Social Care Partnership. We strive to provide person centred care and I am pleased to read you feel this has been achieved. It is a privilege to be invited in to a patients home and provide care and support at any time of life and means so much for the team to be part of an end of life journey for both patients and families. We only get one chance to get end of life care right and your feed back shows working as a team with the patient and family at the core, you achieved his dying wish to be cared for at home with family around him. Not having to worry about what to do next provides a huge sense of relief for families and we hear this from other families too. I will share your feedback with the palliative care team over the coming days and at our next team meeting. I will also ensure our management team are included in the feedback you have given

On behalf of the Palliative Care Team I want to offer our thoughts over the coming days, weeks and months as your journey without him commences.

Firstly can l say that l am so sorry for your loss. This will be such a difficult time for you and your family.

I would also like to echo much of what my colleague, Theresa, has said and thank you so much for taking the time to write this heart warming compliment to all teams involved in your relatives care.

On behalf of the District Nursing team this means so much as we all strive to provide person centred care to all the people and their families we care for. It is so important to us to get to know the person and their family during this time to allow us to meet their individual needs and wishes. We understand this is such a difficult time for all families but it is a privilege to be invited into homes and be able to provide care and support as they have to your relative and your family. For us being able to allow families to spend quality time together in those final days is essential.

I have shared your feedback with Jennifer and her team at Path and they are so grateful for your kind words. Jennifer has said it was such a pleasure to care for your relative and support your family during this time and she sends you the kindest of regards to you and your family.

On behalf of all the District Nursing Team please except are condolences on the loss of your loved one and thank you again for taking the time to offer your kind words.
