"Our experience was excellent"

About: Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital / Accident & Emergency (Emergency Care)

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter hurt her arm at school. She needed a check-up to be sure it wasn’t broken. She was seen in Children’s A&E Reception, with a very short wait, to then be seen by an excellent Student Nurse called Kirsten. She centred my daughter in the consultation, giving her agency and input. She was kind and gentle throughout. Dr Kubel then carried out a medical assessment, this was thorough and again our daughter was centred in her own care. She loved that, as did I. I was asked appropriate questions and we were discharged with a worsening statement.

This morning my daughter’s arm pain was back, so we went back as instructed.

Again we went through Reception to be seen by Dr Smith, who listened and treated us respectfully and with utter kindness. We ended up in the Radiology Dept for an X-ray which was performed rapidly and Dr Smith allowed us to be discharged home with appropriate advice.

Radiologists read the report quickly and we were updated on the further plan of care by telephone.

Our experience in RACH was excellent, from the moment we stepped through the door until we left. We felt looked after, respected and the care was patient-centred throughout.

Immense thanks to everyone, really very grateful especially in the background of such pressures in the system.

Thank you to each and every one of you for your hard work, at the hardest of times. You all are an example of how the NHS shines. Take care of yourselves.

Thanks you so much for taking the time to give us this wonderful feedback. The team will be delighted to hear of your experience. If you are happy to share your daughter's name with me on e-mail (sue.danby@nhs.scot), I can ensure all those involved in her care get this feedback directly.

I hope your daughter is making a good recovery.

Kind Regards
