My daughter, aged 19, was admitted to the ward with acute tonsillitis and glandular fever. The care she received on the ward was amazing. She was scared, poorly and overwhelmed. The staff took her details and listened to us when we explained she is under investigation for Autism.
Visiting was 9am to 8pm and there was never any pressure to be off the ward. We left her on the night she was admitted explaining that she was very anxious as this was her first time in hospital. During the night she was messaging us saying she didn't want to be there. I phoned the ward at 3.30 in the night and they were extremely understanding and let me come in and spend the rest of the night with her.
The nurses had been trying their best to console her and be with her but with how stretched the NHS is they just don't have the time. The next afternoon we spoke to one of the nurses to ask if I could stay with her again that night. The ward manager agreed as my daughter was so anxious.
It was a relief and comfort to both my daughter, myself and my husband to know how accomodating they were and helpful. They were an amazing, caring set of people. The nurses and health care assistants on that ward were amazing and fantastic. The ENT doctors were amazing too and very efficient. They explained everything that was happening and explained the care that was needed. Thank you so much.
