We have been so well cared for by the NHS Ayrshire and Arran Homebirth team from our initial booking in. Having a named midwife, Lorna, who our family was able to build a good relationship was invaluable in giving us the confidence to birth at home. Lorna took the time to get to know our kids and involve them in our prenatal care which was just magic.
Our midwives also made sure that my partner was involved and included in all aspects of our care, and checked in with how he was feeling throughout our prenatal, labour and post natal care. It was easy to communicate with all of the team, who were never more than a phone call or text away - this clear communication was important to us. Events such as "Meet the Homebirth Team" gave us the opportunity to meet the wider team, so when we received our incredible support to hypnobirth, and receive acupuncture and aromatherapy, we had already met the midwives, the amazing Sharon and Karen, who came out to us at home.
During labour, Karen was phenomenal. She was calm and supported, offering me choices and really listening to me. When she arrived at our house, I instantly felt safer and more relaxed. Charlene was also wonderful and so reassuring. Audrey arrived towards the end of my labour, and supported our hypnobirthing and cared for us over the following weekend post labour. The team supported us to deliver all 12lbs 9oz of our daughter in our living room, and we are so grateful that we were able to have the birth that we had always dreamed of.
We would also like to mention Laura, who offered us support and wisdom towards the end of our pregnancy. We cannot sing the praises of the team high enough, the continuity of care made all the difference and was delivered in such a family centred way.
