I was referred to the Royal Cornwall Hospital Truro Gynaecology Department.
I had a ultrasound scan, a week later I had a Hysteroscopy and Biopsy taken from womb. Results showed Cancer cells present in my womb. I was given choices of treatment. I chose to have a Laparoscopic Hysterectomy. From the beginning of my treatment everything was explained to me in detail, I was treated with upmost dignity in every department! I felt very at ease ! Every member of the team was kind but professional!Pre Op nurse Julie was very cheerful, even had free parking! As unit in a different area.On my admission I was met by a nurse on EDEN WARD who checked all my details and I was given a gown to wear, I was shown to waiting room where I was introduced to the gentleman who would administer the anaesthetic, again everything was explained to me and I was given the opportunity to ask questions.A medical student came and introduced himself showed me his identity , he asked if I would mind him inserting the catheter that was necessary for my op, I said it was fine, he said he would be observed.I was taken to meet the Consultant( Miss Borley) she had a very cheerful but professional way with her and I was very at ease! She then went to the theatre to get ready .The theatre nurse came to meet me and I felt very comfortable, a cannula was put in my arm and I was quietly breathing into mask. The next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery, the nurse was exceptionally good and got the pain under control in no time!On my return to the ward I was offered a cup of tea and something to eat, the tea was so good I had a second cup, lucky for me it was tuna mayo sandwich, I only managed half but enjoyed it.I did have a catheter in when I awoke, this was removed by a nurse at midnight, she did observation throughout the night, bp, temperature, oxygen levels etc.Miss Borley visited me in the morning, she told me that everything went well, she said that everything that she removed had been sent for analysing and she would ring me personally with results as soon as she could, possibly four to five weeks, She explained about the stitches self dissolving and the holes in my tummy, four in all, three tiny and one above navel a bit bigger, also one stitch internally self dissolving, she then asked if I would like help with diet as I am a big lady and I said I would so she has referred me to Endocrinologist, I have already received an appointment!I got out of bed and walked to the toilet in the morning, I was then given a nice bowl to have a wash and freshen up.The nurse measured my intake and output of fluids .By four o’clock in the afternoon I was able to be discharged! I was sent home with blood thinners and pain killers!I have since had a phone call from Miss Borley to tell me that the cancer was early stages and contained within the womb so no further action to be taken. I will get an appointment for a follow up clinic in three months, but can contact her if any concerns before then.I am an elderly lady, so very much appreciated that I was treated so kindly!
Thanks to all the staff at ROYAL CORNWALL HOSPITAL TRURO! You are all stars!
