I am writing to acknowledge the excellent care given to my long-term partner during the last 5 weeks of his life in the Linsay Ward at Biggart Hospital, Prestwick.
Most of that time visiting was restricted to myself only as there was Covid on the ward. This situation caused both stress and extra work for the medical staff, yet throughout all this time both my partner and I were treated with the utmost respect and empathy.
The staff extended a level of professionalism that Scotland NHS should be proud of. My anxiety and worry for my partner's failing health was always taken seriously and appropriately acted upon. Whatever treatment he received was always explained to me and even my requests for the smallest improvements to his comfort was carried out no matter how busy the staff were.
The ethos and caring culture in the Linsay Ward was of a high quality and the care of the patients’ wellbeing , not only for their medical ailments but also their mental health, was seen as a priority. The staff also certainly made me feel important and part of their team in caring for my partner.
They made what was a very difficult and sad time bearable and I shall always be grateful to them for that.
