As a woman I've been trying to deal with some difficult symptoms that are impacting on my life and feeling like I was getting nowhere navigating the NHS to find support.
Women's health is so important and as an older woman felt despairing that my experiences/symptoms were not able to be helped further, and to be honest at times began to feel like that as an older woman that I just had to put up with things and functionally I couldn't hope to get better. This never did and doesn't feel right to me and I was lucky to be referred to Dr Guerrero's Gynaecology Clinic which I attended yesterday.
As a nurse myself I believe that when healthcare professionals really listen to patients and provide that therapeutic space in relating to another it really is powerful and is so healing in itself - this is truly the art of medicine and healthcare.
Dr Guererro was so professional and kind - she gave me her full attention. She offered a working diagnosis, validation of my experience - including options for ongoing care. I felt, for the first time in a long time, a little bit of hope. Not just for myself, but for the NHS, that there truly are great clinicians who care about women and their health and wellbeing. I'm sorry I don't remember the Nurse who worked with Dr Guererro in looking after me, but she was a superstar and didn't mind re-explaining next steps due to my sudden hearing aid battery failure. Even if I'd been discharged with no options for treatment and care I would have written a positive experience feedback - as I said and always say that changing lives isn't always in the technology and treatments - it truly is the art of being in the presence of a skilled clinician who really listens to you.
"A skilled clinician who really listens to you."
