"I was honestly bowled over by the care and attention"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Accident & Emergency Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / General Surgery Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

I was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary hospital in the middle of the night via ambulance with heart-attack like symptoms. From about 4am until 3pm I saw a variety of doctors, nurses, ward staff, porters, radiographers etc. I was pretty ill whilst I was in A&E, and every single person (including the paramedics who brought me in) were caring, understanding and empathetic. Also very patient. The result of my visit was that I was then in again just two days later into Day Surgery for a gallbladder removal. I don’t mind admitting I was mildly terrified (a bit of a medical-phobe who’s never previously had cause to be in hospital), again, everyone who I met on the team were amazing. The ward team, the nurses, anaesthetist, surgeon, porters, night staff, etc. I was honestly bowled over by the care and attention - and the genuine warmth of spirit - that came from everyone. I don’t doubt that working in hospitals is one of the most demanding jobs in the world - mentally and physically - and so to maintain what felt like such care, calm, and understanding and a very organised process (if not some long waiting times!) was just so impressive. I am extremely grateful patient.
