I recently had a minor operation at Wishaw General Hospital Day Surgery. I was asked to come in late morning, which meant I had to fast for 5 hours prior to this. I had to wait a further 3 hours until I was taken to theatre, however thankfully I got chatting with another patient, so the time went by quickly. I had hoped to avoid a general anaesthetic, however this couldn't be avoided. The surgery was straightforward and although I felt unwell when I came back round, I was soon well enough to go home, to be supervised for the first 24 hours. My only real criticism is the provision of TED stockings which are to be worn for 6 weeks after surgery. I was only provided with 2 pairs, which makes it extremely difficult to stick to the 6 weeks rule, as these can only be removed for 30 minutes to bathe or shower each day. I have bought one more pair, and have a further two on order, however even at that, it is very difficult to keep up with washing and drying them. I am fortunate that I can afford to buy these stockings, but not all patients can. I know resources are tight but I do think this needs to be addressed. Overall however, the care I received was very good and I was kept well informed.
