"Long waiting time and no privacy"

About: Whiston Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My wife was referred to Whiston A&E for a heart related problem. We arrived at the dept at 2.05 pm and during the first three hours waiting she had an ECG test and a blood test, each of which took a few minutes. We then waited another four hours and twenty minutes before the  results were analysed and she was told she could go home. We left at 9.25 pm a total of seven hours twenty minutes later.

Although the medical care was good, I felt the waiting time was excessive and privacy was non-existent. The waiting room was mostly full all the time with patients turning up bleeding from injuries, being sick, crying, etc. and you could hear clearly patients being asked at the checking in desk what the ailments were, including one person who had to describe anal bleeding in full earshot of everybody nearby.

I last attended Whiston A&E about two years ago with a broken leg and it was exactly the same then. Surely someone in authority can see that this is not right and make arrangements to improve the situation to make the experience better for the patients who have to endure such long waiting times.
