"Lack of beds"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Acute Medical Unit (AMU) Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Admitted to ED on Saturday, after 60 hours on a trolley in a cubicle I was moved to AMU while a bed became available on the Heart Ward. Other than a wait for a bed my care and treatment has been excellent. The staff have also been excellent. The food has been also been good.

I have been comfortable since being moved from the trolley but getting frustrated while waiting for a bed in 1 North as I feel I'm taking a bed up here that someone else could use.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback of your experience in our department.

In relation to the lengthy waiting time. We do not want people waiting for such long times on admission beds on the wards.

The patient flow team and the inpatient ward staff are working to improve the flow of admissions out of the ED. Better flow will reduce overcrowding and waiting times.

Kind regards

Paul Smyth

Head of ED
