"Hospital admission to Ward 8D in QUEH"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Gastroenterology (Stomach and gut problems) Wards 8b, 8c &8d

(as a service user),

My husband was admitted with an ulcerative colitis flare. The care he received was good but could have been improved if there was continuity of carer. The majority of staff that provided care for him were bank or agency workers. This in itself is not a problem, however they were not all fully aware of his patient journey and care plan, they did all show care and compassion and happy to make him a cuppa! My husband has to have a colectomy soon. He was seen by the stoma nurse who was excellent and informative.On the day he was discharged,he was cared for by Nurse Strain, who was fantastic and entertaining to boot. He has made him feel confident that his quality of life will be much better with a stoma. Well done everyone. Thanks.

Many thanks for taking the time to share your experiences with us. I have shared your positive feedback with the team and in particular with Nurse Strain and the Stoma Nurse. We always strive to improve on the level of care provided to patients and I have asked the Gastro Senior Team to consider how we can ensure all staff (including bank staff) have an awareness/knowledge of the patients journey and plan, resulting in a more positive patient experience.

I hope your husband's quality of Life now improves with his new stoma and we wish him well for the future.
