I was contacted and offered a cancelled MRI scan today. I arrived in the MRI department in Belfast City Hospital (BCH) and was greeted by a member of staff who provided their name and given full instructions on what to do and what to expect.
I changed into a gown that fitted and closed at the back (that means a lot) and waited. While waiting I was offered a blanket and water and there was a privacy screen put up in front of me.
I didn’t have to wait long and was shown into the scan room where I was introduced to the other staff, assisted onto the bed and given a cushion for under my knees- these may be routine but it greatly added to my comfort.
The earplugs and padding helped reduce the noise and I was asked if I wanted the fan left on which I did. Again these things helped with the process. I was made to feel at ease.
All in all a very positive experience- keep doing what you’re doing. The small things matter and make us feel human. I am truly thankful for the staff today, they made a difference.
