Experience with 111 and Perth Royal Infirmary, A&E and Ward 4 with my daughter.
I vowed never to use Care Opinion again after the trauma of a previous submission. However, in the current climate, positive feedback must be shared.
Call handler from 111 was calm, patient, friendly, and professional. We were originally directed to Fife, but I requested PRI for logistical reasons but also because previous experiences have been so positive at PRI. The call handler contacted PRI and confirmed that they were able to assess her. This was a huge weight off our minds. I felt listened to.
When we arrived at A&E, Reception was aware of our intended arrival and my daughter's paperwork was prepared. The Receptionist was very professional yet kind.
We didn't wait long and from then, the experience was mostly incredibly positive.
The Charge Nurse (Maisie) was so very kind and supportive towards my daughter, which put us both at ease immediately. She explained what was likely to happen and reassured us both.
Doctor Camilla (I think it said Clinical Fellow on her badge) was amazing. Her communication skills were excellent and she treated my daughter with kindness and empathy. I could see my daughter relax in her presence and this encouraged her to engage with the doctor.
Things became a bit of a blur from then but every nurse, HCA, and doctor involved in my daughter's care was patient, kind, professional, and empathetic. I can't remember everyone as it was a very emotional time but all staff were incredible.
Ward 4 is obviously a very busy place and spending 36 hours there was very interesting. Despite obvious pressure for bed space and having some very unwell patients under their care, it was apparent that the team worked efficiently for patient welfare.
I couldn't fault the care my daughter received. Being allowed to stay with her was an important thing for both of us and I received nothing but kindness from all staff.
Dr Lawrence (FY2) deserves a special mention for his kind manner and excellent communication skills. He put us both at ease whilst explaining everything clearly and with true compassion. I believe we must protect and support these young doctors - they are the future of our NHS.
My daughter has had to return to the ward for blood tests and has been treated with the same kindness and compassion as earlier. Staff have recognised her and spoken with her, Colin the ANP put us both at ease whilst taking bloods, and Dr Harper has been so kind and supportive.
I must emphasise that not naming more staff is merely a reflection of the intensity of the situation and the constant stream of professionals attending to my daughter. Every one is a rock star in their own right but intrinsic to the amazing team effort that continues 24/7 in the ward and beyond.
